Ms. GRISHMA PAUDYAL, Owner, Manai Dekhi Nepal


Grishma is a budding entrepreneur who is carving a path towards her successful  entrepreneurial journey. Young and passionate about handcrafted products, Grishma makes handmade candles which  have beautiful designs and natural scents that make one  feel good.   Aiming to promote  affordable handcrafted products and create an impact that encourages youths to engage in small-scale businesses, she started her business in December 2020. Grishma happily shares, “One  thing I love about my business is that I work in a way that suits my style and tastes,  and at the same time I see my product and business providing people a sense of  happiness.” Youths like Grishma, taking a plunge into entrepreneurship makes us hopeful towards the future of the nation.

 

Disaster Experience

Well when the pandemic hit the world and lockdown happened, Grishma was bound to spend time at home. Luckily this gave her time to work on her business idea and craft beautiful candles. As she started her business towards the beginning of 2021, her business didn’t get much affected by the pandemic as the situation was getting better. It was a small-scale business catering to online customers and so she felt that it was just the right time to learn about digitizing business. So, she was excited to be associated with Udhyami Utthan Campaign and promote her products through UU Online Shop.

“Fostering Resilience of Women-Led Businesses (including home-based women producers) and Consumers” is a project being implemented by Thulo.Com and Enterprise for Management, Economic Reform, and Gender Equality (EMERGE). The project is supported by United States Agency for International Development (USAID)’s Tayar Nepal - Improved Disaster Risk Management Project and also contributes to Udhyami Utthan (UU - https://udhyamiutthan.com/about-us/ ), an entrepreneurship empowerment initiative.

 

Experience as a Project Beneficiary

Grishma shares that being part of this project was the best decision she made as she got the opportunity to enhance her knowledge on running a resilient business at the beginning of her entrepreneurial journey. She mentioned that, “I gained a basic understanding of business and catastrophe management. As a  budding entrepreneur, after  association with Udhyami Utthan, I realized that my primary priority should involve crisis  management and ecommerce planning if I want to build a sustainable business.”

According to Grishma, training on Business Continuity Management (BCM) enables a business to respond to risks such as natural disasters or data  leaks, ensuring that vital services are maintained and everyday business activities are  carried out to the best of their abilities, which is a critical part of a business. Grishma understands that  Business Continuity Plan (BCP) is used to develop a framework for preventing and  recovering from hazards like natural catastrophes or cyber-attacks. BCP has aided  her  business by assisting her in developing a strategy to protect her work and assets  while also ensuring that they can function rapidly in the event of a crisis.

Additionally she continued saying that everything is practically digitalized in the twenty-first century, and the world has begun  to work in a new way. Given that her business is online, this training has  helped her develop and enhance her understanding of online sales and use of social media promotion to advertise her business to reach a bigger audience and earn profit. In addition to her social media accounts management, she has now built a client and order sheet to keep track of all of her upcoming and ongoing  projects and payments. The association with UU Online Shop made her realize that customers will know they've arrived at the right place if her page quickly and creatively describes her products. According to her, customers that are familiar with  the brand will feel more at ease to buy online therefore use of the logo to brand one’scompany on the website or social media page will also grab the customers attention.

As Grishma had just started her business she was not aware of the banking and insurance schemes. So attending the banking and insurance webinar has helped her learn about the different schemes offered. The information she gathered from this session will come handy for her future.

Future Plan

After learning about the importance of disaster management Grishma has realized that preventive measures should be prioritized. She plans to design a strategy for evacuating, maintain  an up-to-date list of emergency phone numbers, create an emergency supply kit and keep  important business documents safe, preferably in the cloud.

Grishma also intends to continue to sell her products via Thulo.Com  even  after the project since e-commerce allows consumers to purchase from their favorite site at any  time of day or night. It also provides customers with relevant product information,  product reviews, and product descriptions to help them make the best decision  possible. A well-established ecommerce platform also helps her business to gain more  recognition, which leads to increased reach and, eventually, increased commercial  success.
